Mobile Bay Bridge 12/1/2020 |
And here we are entering Mobile Bay on what may possibly be the COLDEST DAY EVER on The Lower Place!! The weather forecast didn’t miss…we woke up on 12/1/2020 to 29° outside the boat and 46° INSIDE the boat!! But we had extra blankets on the bed and my fearless captain quickly fired up the generator, turned on the central heat and started brewing coffee! Isn’t he just the BEST!!! Of course, all this was around 5:00am so there’s that…but just look at that flat, beautiful water and clear blue sky - what a difference a day makes.
Now don’t be confused…I play my part too. Pulling up anchor & 100’ of chain required me to be on the bow dressed appropriately in rain boots, 2 layers of pants, long sleeve t shirt, sweatshirt & windbreaker completing the look with heavy duty garden gloves & headband…while working the deck wash hose to remove the sticky, black, gummy mud that kept us safe all night. It was 31°, frost on the deck and breezy so there’s that…
Of course, I don’t have any pictures of this chore because it was too stinking COLD to even THINK about bringing my phone on deck! But for those who think every day is sunshine and fruity drinks – it takes effort!! I’m not complaining – it still beats a day at the office.

Evidence of the wind at anchor 11/30/2020, brrrr! |
We had a very short 3 ½ hour run from the anchorage to Turner Marina in Mobile. Due to the crazy weather on Monday a small craft advisory was issued for Mobile Bay and it was just fine with me to drop the hook in a hurricane hole! So arriving early allowed me to get a couple loads of laundry done (imagine that), defrost the fridge, take inventory of our provisions, fill the water tanks, make dinner & enjoy a bubble bath! Again, social distancing, mask wearing, etc. allows for a very productive marina stop but we’ve travelled with Mona Gee and Hearken for several days and we still feel like strangers. Odd, huh?

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we plan to leave Turner Marina with Hearken and cross Mobile Bay heading east on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GICW).
Stay healthy & God Bless
Have a wonderful day
